Joao Cancelo has insisted that his heart is always in the right place, as he prepares to face Manchester City in the Champions League.

The defender is currently on loan with Bayern Munich until the end of the season.

The Portugal international joined the Bavarian giants in January, much to the surprise of not just Man City supporters, but all football fans.

There had been suggestions that Cancelo had not been happy with the amount of minutes he was getting from Pep Guardiola.

A report from the Daily Mail suggested Cancelo had heated discussions with the manager. The player has always denied these claims.

City seemingly did not want to risk the harmony of the dressing room. And so, his loan move to Germany was facilitated.

Cancelo has so far made 11 appearances for Bayern, scoring one goal and making four assists.

Next week, he will potentially be lining up against his parent club in the Champions League. And the 28-year-old has now made some fresh comments, amid those earlier fall-out rumours.

He said (via Goal): “Sometimes it is said that I may not have a very simple personality. But my heart is in the right place. And you can always count on me. Everyone and everything at FC Bayern is focused on absolute success.

“Here you work really hard in every single training session – I really like this mentality. I’m happy to be here and to play for this great team.”

Joao Cancelo comments might suggest he did make things difficult at Manchester City

These comments from Cancelo are very interesting.

He has always maintained that there was no falling out with the manager. And Guardiola has also stated there was no issue.

Cancelo said after that (via Daily Express): “A competitive player, like me, who aspires to win titles and just wants to play. It’s like Pep said, I need to play to be happy. It’s not a question of devaluing my teammates because others are on the bench to play.

“But I thought I deserved to play, and he didn’t. So we talked, it was a conversation, not a discussion, and we decided that the best thing would be for me to leave this [January] market.”

But the latest comments from Cancelo may indicate that he did make things a little challenging. He also said nothing about people saying he ‘doesn’t have a very simple personality’.

Saying your heart is in the right place is sometimes a suggestion of having behaved in an unconventional way.
