Manchester City take on Everton tonight in the rescheduled Premier League fixture against Everton.
Covid-19 cases for the Citizens prevented the game from taking place back in December, with the postponement call being made just four hours before kick-off much to the frustration of Everton.
For tonight’s clash, City will be without their main man at the moment Ilkay Gundogan (via Liverpool Echo), who is nursing a groin injury which forced him off against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.
His absence is a big blow for Pep Guardiola, with the German having been a goalscoring revelation over the past couple of months.
Kevin De Bruyne will travel for tonight’s game but whether he’ll have the fitness to start remains to be seen – it would be no surprise to see the Belgian on the bench.
Something Pep should – and might – give consideration to is putting Joao Cancelo in central midfield.
The Portuguese star has been in inspired form recently, and has been playing as a sort of hybrid full-back/central midfielder when the team has possession.
Move Cancelo in-field
He’s been one of City’s most creative players this season, and it would be great to see Cancelo actually operating in a central area, which could get more from his range of passing.
Kyle Walker can obviously come in at right-back, allowing Cancelo to dictate things from the inside right area.
Not only does he have great vision and passing, but he is obviously very quick and hardworking – suggesting him as being a pretty good box-to-box player.
Him playing that role, with either Bernando Silva or Phil Foden as a 10 and Rodri holding, seems like it would have a nice balance.
