This season has been one for the history books for Pep Guardiola.
The Man City boss is considered by many as the greatest manager of all time and with his nine years at the Etihad Stadium being littered with trophies, that has not been the case when it comes to the 2024/25 campaign.
Having won four Premier League titles in a row, City are currently fighting for a place in next season’s Champions League and find themselves three points away from third-placed Nottingham Forest.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 3 | 32 | 17 | 6 | 9 | 51 | 38 | 13 | 57 | |
| 4 | 31 | 17 | 5 | 9 | 56 | 40 | 16 | 56 | |
| 5 | 32 | 16 | 7 | 9 | 62 | 42 | 20 | 55 | |
| 6 | 32 | 15 | 9 | 8 | 56 | 39 | 17 | 54 |
The FA Cup is still a possibility for the Manchester outfit this season, which will save the season for the Premier League champions, although it does not live up to the standards set by Guardiola over the last nine years.
Having fallen below expectations, that has had a visible effect on the Spanish coach and TNT Sports pundit Joe Cole noticed something about the 54-year-old ahead of Man City’s 5-2 over Crystal Palace.

Joe Cole spots a change in Pep Guardiola
Changes are coming to Man City next season, Guardiola revealed last week, as the Spanish coach will look to make his squad smaller, in addition to adding younger, quality players to replace outgoing stars such as Kevin de Bruyne.
This should make life easier for the Man City boss as this season looked to be taking its toll on the former Barcelona boss as the legendary coach is not used to suffering defeat as frequently as he has been throughout the 2024/25 campaign.
Ahead of City’s match with Crystal Palace, Cole revealed that he noticed Guardiola looking fresher and that should be good news for fans of the Manchester club with some key games on the horizon.
“We interviewed Pep before the game, and he looked well, he had that spell where you thought ‘oh you don’t look great here’,” Cole said on The Dressing Room Podcast. “But it was a weird game, Palace for the first 20 were brilliant.”
The summer will be big for many reasons for Guardiola as the Spanish coach needs to lead Man City into the new FIFA Club World Cup, new players are required, but most importantly, it will offer the 54-year-old the opportunity to recharge and reset ahead of teh 2025/26 campaign.
How this season compares to Pep Guardiola’s time at Man City
Guardiola has set insane standards at Man City over the last nine years, from reaching 100 points to winning trebles.
That was never going to be sustainable and this season seems to be the one where it has all come crashing down as it pales in comparison to most of the Spaniard’s time in Manchester.
| Season | Games | Wins | Defeats | Draws | Trophies |
| 24/25 | 32 | 16 | 9 | 7 | N/A |
| 23/24 | 38 | 28 | 3 | 7 | 4 |
| 22/23 | 38 | 28 | 5 | 5 | 3 |
| 21/22 | 28 | 29 | 3 | 6 | 1 |
| 20/21 | 38 | 27 | 6 | 5 | 2 |
| 19/20 | 38 | 26 | 9 | 3 | 1 |
| 18/19 | 38 | 32 | 4 | 2 | 4 |
| 17/18 | 38 | 32 | 2 | 4 | 2 |
Guardiola has cemented himself as one of the greatest managers in English football history and his impact will be felt long after he is gone.
Man City’s rivals will be expecting them to bounce back next season and although there is some doubt, it should not be a surprise to see Guardiola recreate one of his legendary campaigns.
