Kevin De Bruyne is set to leave Manchester City at the end of the season.
City fans are gutted to see a legend leave the club, but the Belgian leaves behind a seriously incredible legacy.
De Bruyne may well be City’s best ever player when all is said and done, and there’s a conversation to be had about if he’s the greatest Premier League player of all-time too.
The midfielder has done it all in England – well, almost everything.
Indeed, speaking on The Dressing Room Podcast, Joe Cole has shared a stat about Kevin De Bruyne that has utterly blown his mind.
Despite being a two-time PFA Player of the Year winner, De Bruyne has never won the Premier League Player of the Month award, something that Cole couldn’t quite get his head around.

Joe Cole stunned Kevin De Bruyne has never won Premier League Player of the Month
Cole and Wayne Bridge discussed the fact that De Bruyne has never won the Player of the Month award in the Premier League.
The two pundits were flabbergasted by this fact, with Cole describing it as ‘insane’.
“I heard a stat which blew my mind with KDB, right? He’s never won Premier League Player of the Month,” Cole said.
“That’s crazy,” Bridge said.
“That’s insane,” Cole added.
“That’s mental, isn’t it? Makes me feel better about not getting one,” Bridge said.
“Yeah, I mean, unbelievable, isn’t it?” Cole noted.
Kevin De Bruyne’s best months at Manchester City
De Bruyne has never won the Premier League Player of the Month award, but there are a few occasions where he has been, wrongly, overlooked for this trophy.
Indeed, De Bruyne has had some incredible months at Manchester City, and the stats show that he should’ve won at least one of these awards.
The midfielder has been a victim of this award not being given out in May, as he often saves his best form for the end of the season.
| Kevin De Bruyne’s best months at Manchester City | Games | Goals | Assists | Player of the Month winner |
| May 2017 | 4 | 2 | 5 | Not awarded |
| August 2019 | 4 | 1 | 4 | Teemu Pukki |
| December 2019 | 6 | 3 | 3 | Trent Alexander-Arnold |
| April 2022 | 4 | 2 | 3 | Cristiano Ronaldo |
| May 2022 | 4 | 4 | 2 | Not awarded |
| April 2023 | 4 | 3 | 5 | Erling Haaland |
| April 2024 | 4 | 3 | 3 | Cole Palmer |
For some reason, De Bruyne has been continuously overlooked for this award over the years, and as we head into the final months of the City star playing in the Premier League, it’s looking more and more unlikely that he’ll ever win this award.
Unfortunately, sometimes, top players are snubbed in these sorts of awards – Sergio Aguero only made the Premier League Team of the Year once, while Yaya Toure never won a Player of the Year award.
Ultimately, De Bruyne is one of the best midfielders the Premier League has seen, even if this particular individual accolade has eluded him.
