John Barnes has said that Darwin Nunez has traits in his locker that Erling Haaland does not.
Speaking about the Liverpool striker on This Is Anfield’s YouTube channel, the English legend gave his opinion on the positive and negative traits of his game and went on to make a comparison between him and the Norwegian goalscorer.

When Haaland and Nunez signed for Manchester City and Liverpool in the summer of 2022, they were constantly compared.
In fact, many debated which out of the two highly-rated No.9’s would score more goals in the Premier League.
Now, John Barnes has said that while Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland is the superior finisher, Darwin Nunez has traits that the former lacks.
“He creates chances himself, if Darwin Nunez was a finisher like Robbie Fowler, he would be worth £150 million and scoring 50 goals a year. He can do what Erling Haaland can’t and Erling Haaland can do what he can’t. He will score goals, he will work hard for the team and he chases back”, Barnes told This Is Anfield on their YouTube channel.
“I don’t see another centre-forward doing that. In terms of what he has and what he gives us he’s fine, he’s never going to be a Robbie Fowler.”
Erling Haaland is on another planet to the Liverpool striker
This opinion from John Barnes would perhaps be more apt if he was discussing Mohamed Salah instead of Darwin Nunez when likening him to Erling Haaland.
But in that case, the Reds icon would be comparing two players in different positions.
However, not only is Haaland a better goalscorer than Nunez but is far more technically secure and is better playing with his back to goal.
When it comes to creating chances, Darwin Nunez is excellent at being an outlet and running beyond opposition defences to generate opportunities for himself out of seemingly nowhere.
But the same can be said for Erling Haaland, who has done so for years whilst being far more prolific in front of goal.
In every possible way, the treble-winner is such on another planet to Nunez as a striker.
