Arsenal’s 2-0 victory against Wolves would have added an extra sense of determination within the Manchester City camp to get the all-important three points against Chelsea.
Pep Guardiola’s side will be aware that regardless of the result they accrue at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, it will not play any part in the title race.
However, much like Arsenal, City would also like to kickstart the 2024/2025 season with a statement win to remind the chasing pack in the Premier League that they remain to beat.
Especially against a Chelsea side that will be raring to regain their place in the Champions League at the end of the campaign by getting off to a promising start.
With Enzo Maresca coming in, the decision-makers at the club will also have high hopes that their project can finally take off under the Italian’s stewardship.

Obi Mikel reveals Chelsea advantage vs Man City as he predicts winner
As two teams with differing expectations will go head-to-head with each other, it will be intriguing to see which side comes out on top.
On one hand, Manchester City’s superior quality and experience should give them the upper hand in the contest.
Furthermore, the squad would entering the game against Chelsea in high spirits after beating Manchester United in the FA Community Shield on penalties.
But the West London side showcased more often that not in the games against the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ sides that they can go toe-to-toe with them.
John Obi Mikel foresees an upset as he has predicted Chelsea to defeat the mighty Manchester City.
The pundit said on The Obi One Podcast: “I’m going to go with Chelsea to beat City at Stamford Bridge because I think City are not going to come with the first team, so I think we’ve got a chance of beating City.”
Man City have a promising recent record against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge
The last time Chelsea defeated Manchester City at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League was during their 2-1 win in June 2020.
Since then, in their four meetings in West London, City have won thrice while drawing their previous outing against them 4-4 last season.
Despite Chelsea perhaps not being the same force they were during the initial portion of Thomas Tuchel’s tenure, travelling to Stamford Bridge remains a difficult task for most sides in England.
However, judging by City’s recent record at the stadium, they could feel quietly confident about beating Maresca and Co.
