John Stones has shared how impressed he has been with Kalvin Phillips and his ability to pass the ball in games.
The two England internationals completed their first Premier League campaign together last month as Pep Guardiola’s side won their fifth league title in six years.
With the domestic campaign now over, the duo have been on media duties and been given the chance to interview each other.
Stones praises Phillips
Speaking in a recent video on the official Manchester City YouTube channel, Stones said this about Phillips when asked what he admires the most about the midfielder.
He said: “Easily his range of passing and how he’s always in the right place on the pitch, his positioning and some of the passes he plays [are] outrageous.”
Even though he has only started two of the 12 Premier League games he featured in for City this season, Phillips still managed to show what a good passer of the ball he is as he successfully completed 289 of the 313 passes he attempted.
This has given the Englishman an overall passing accuracy percentage of 92.3%, the fifth-highest in the City squad, which backs up why Stones highlighted this area of Phillips’ game as a big strength.
With Stones being one of the players with a higher passing accuracy percentage than the 27-year-old, it’s clear that he knows what it takes to be comfortable on the ball and move it around the pitch, which makes his praise for Phillips particularly special.
Moving forward, despite getting his hands on his first Premier League title last month, it’s safe to presume that the former Leeds United midfielder will be hoping to get more playing time under his belt next season and show people what he’s capable of and why the club chose to sign him.
