Manchester City yesterday finally announced the signing of defender Josko Gvardiol.

City fans have had to be patient, but the wait is finally over.

City reached an agreement with RB Leipzig earlier this week, and have paid £77.5 million for the Croatia international.

He has become the second most expensive defender in the game today, after Harry Maguire.

Gvardiol’s capture is a serious statement from City.

The defence was absolutely fantastic in the last few months of 2023/24.

But the club have gone out and signed a player who could very possibly become the best central defender in the world in a few years.

Much has been written about Gvardiol since City’s interest ramped up this summer.

The 21-year-old is essentially brilliant at everything.

He is a cracking defender like Ruben Dias. And he can also pass the ball as brilliantly as Aymeric Laporte.

Gvardiol is also an excellent ball-carrier.

It is going to be brilliant watching him in action in this City team.

Following the announcement yesterday, plenty of content was released around Gvardiol.

The club interviewed the youngster, and he talked up his fellow countryman Mateo Kovacic, and also superstar Erling Haaland.

City also released a joint post with Gvardiol on Instagram.

The City squad is currently gearing up for the Community Shield against Arsenal, meaning most of the players are probably focused.

But there was one player that sent a message to Gvardiol.

John Stones wrote ‘Welcome’, and also included a smiley face emoji for good measure.

A nice touch from the England international, who will no doubt be delighted the club’s defence has grown even stronger.
