Two-time Premier League winner John Terry has hailed Manchester City as an ‘incredible’ team and an outfit that other sides will find very difficult to catch.

City have enjoyed a hugely successful period since Pep Guardiola became manager in the summer of 2016.

After taking a year to work things out and make changes to his squad, Pep has been on a tear in English football, overseeing beautiful, winning football at the Etihad Stadium.

To date, the Spaniard has delivered 16 trophies (including Community Shields), and he is widely regarded as the best manager in the world, and for some, he’s the greatest of all time.

City fans have been very lucky to enjoy such an amazing period, and John Terry – who recently admitted he never thought Kevin De Bruyne would become as good as he is – is in awe of what the club have done in recent times…

At the moment, City are locked in a battle with four other clubs at the top of the Premier League table.

Liverpool sit at the summit, with City just two points behind. Arsenal are level on points with City now after their win over Crystal Palace and Saturday.

Aston Villa have enjoyed an incredible season under Unai Emery, and sit fourth just two points off the top.

Tottenham Hotspur have come back into form recently, and are fifth and just five points adrift of Liverpool.

It may be quite tight at the top right now, but for many people, City are the ominous team having won the last three Premier League titles on offer.

In the eyes of Terry, it will be extremely difficult for the others to bridge the gap. He said (Daily Mail): “You know what? I think we’re seeing cycles. I think when I look back 10, 15 years ago. Man United were dominating the Premier League. Chelsea come along, we dominated for a little bit. Now Pep and Man City are dominating.

“I’ve said it for a little bit now, it’s going to be hard to catch them. They’re the best team, they’ve got some great individual players, and the way they do it year after year is incredible.’

“I managed to win the Premier League twice on the bounce, it’s very difficult to do. I wish them well, they’re a fantastic team.’

City have wind in their sails

Terry is right – it is going to be very difficult for the other clubs to bridge the gap to City and overtake them and become a dominant force.

That’s because City have just got everything right over the last decade or so.

For all the investment over the years, Etihad executives at the club have been remarkably savvy in the way they have operated.

Player recruitment has been spot on, and the investment in infrastructure has been paying dividends. This is evidenced by the fact City have one of the most profitable academies in the world.

Everything is in place for City to continue dominating and really, the only thing that will prompt a change at the top of English football would be an unfavourable result in City’s case against the Premier League regarding the 115 charges.
