Troy Deeney has now claimed that Riyad Mahrez – who Manchester City sold in July – has the best touch he’s ever seen.
The 35-year-old made the comment while speaking on The Players Channel alongside Jermain Defoe.
So, what did Troy Deeney say about Riyad Mahrez? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, the treble winners allowed the Algeria international to leave for Al-Ahli for a sum of £30m in July.
It came after Mahrez scored 78 goals and provided 59 assists in 236 appearances for Manchester City, where the 32-year-old won four Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, two FA Cups and three League Cups.
Now, Deeney has claimed that the Sarcelles-born winger has the best touch of a football he’s ever witnessed, while adding him into his best XI of players previously mentioned on The Players Channel.
The Forest Green Rovers No.14 said: “On the right, it’s Riyad Mahrez. The best touch I’ve ever seen. It’s a joke… I don’t think we have to debate that. It’s either him or your boy (Jermaine) Pennant.”

The Al-Ahli No.7 has a lot more going for him than just his first touch, although it is genuinely hard to gloss over his control. It is that good.
Manchester City did well out of Riyad Mahrez
While some may have been sad to see a player as talented as Mahrez depart the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City handled business well.
The Citizens paid £60m to sign the Algerian from Leicester back in July 2018, and he went on to play a huge role in all of the aforementioned trophy wins.

Then, after five years of quality service, Manchester City managed to make £30m back on their initial investment, which is fantastic work from Txiki Begiristain.
Some of that was then reinvested into the £55.5m Jeremy Doku – who is just 21 years of age – providing a clear example of just how excellent Manchester City’s recruitment really is.
