Manchester City winger Cole Palmer has come in for praise from Joleon Lescott following his exploits for the England U21s.

The 21-year-old played a key role in the win over Spain that saw the Young Lions crown European champions on Saturday night.

Lee Carsley’s side won 1-0, and Palmer had a huge role in the goal.

It was he that took the free-kick that was deflected off Curtis Jones.

There was potential right at the end for England to concede their first goal of the entire tournament when Levi Colwill gave away a penalty.

But James Trafford stepped up to deny Abel Ruiz from the spot.

It was a brilliant save down low, and Trafford also made another save on the follow up to effectively win the championship for England.

The City youngsters that featured in Saturday night’s final have all posted on social media.

Palmer himself has done a couple of posts.

But the star was actually the subject of a post from former City defender Joleon Lescott, who is part of Carsley’s backroom staff.

Lescott clearly feels strongly about Palmer’s ability.

He had his photo taken with Palmer and the trophy, and the official Manchester City Instagram account then uploaded it.

Sharing the post to his Story, Lescott wrote ‘some player’ and tagged Palmer. It is a view a lot of people will share after his exploits in Georgia.

Cole Palmer sent a reminder of how good he is while on England U21s duty

What a moment for Palmer who, like Julian Alvarez, has added an international trophy to his Treble.

Palmer may not have been credited with the goal against Spain. But it would not have happened without him and England therefore would not be champions without him.

It was a really good tournament from the £20,000-a-week star, who may have felt frustrated throughout 2022/23 with his lack of minutes.

It is difficult for him. Pep Guardiola has many fantastic wide options.

But Palmer has just sent a little reminder of what a talented player he is.

Perhaps he will have a bit more prominence if one of Bernardo Silva or Riyad Mahrez leaves. Or both go.

He could well join another club on loan. And if that’s the case then whoever gets him is very lucky indeed.
