Joleon Lescott has said that Manchester City defensive midfielder Rodri is better than Manchester United lynchpin Casemiro.

Since the Brazilian international has stepped foot into the Premier League, his arrival has led to constant comparisons with the Spaniard as well as Arsenal’s Thomas Partey to decide the best No.6 in England.

But former Manchester City centre-back Joleon Lescott has explained why Rodri is a superior player to Casemiro.

Lescott says Rodri is better than Casemiro

The £62.5 million (Sky Sports) has been one of the Sky Blues’ most in-form players yet again this campaign, with many even claiming that after Erling Haaland, he has been the club’s best performer this season.

While last season, it was widely agreed that there was not a single defensive midfielder that was on the ex-Atletico Madrid man’s level.

As the idea of Casemiro been better has been expressed by some this campaign, Joleon Lescott has explained why Rodri remains the better player, who Pep Guardiola admitted to being blown away upon watching against Crystal Palace recently.

“I would [take Rodri over Casemiro]. Casemiro has been impactful for Man Utd, but from a centre-half’s point of view, and what I want them to do, I think he prevents a lot of opportunities for the opposition.”

“He recognises the danger so early, so the attacks don’t even start. I would definitely put him ahead of Casemiro, it’s not just my biased Man City hat on!

“I think he’s the most adaptable in that role. I think Sean Dyche would sign Rodri. He’s a personality as well, he’s not on social media, I think that goes a long way, he’s low maintenance, but so impactful on the pitch”, he said on BT Sport.

While Casemiro may possess the best engine out of any defensive midfielder in Europe, Joleon Lescott is perhaps right in saying that in terms of his reading of the game and on the ball, Rodri is a cut above the rest.
