Joleon Lescott says he has noticed a rare quality in one Manchester City star.

Manchester City’s great season continued on Wednesday as they sailed into the Champions League quarter-finals.

Pep Guardiola’s side defeated FC Copenhagen 3-1, 6-2 on aggregate, thanks to goals from Manuel Akanji, Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland.

It’s now 20 games unbeaten for City and the perfect preparation for Sunday’s pivotal match-up with Liverpool.

The trip to Anfield could determine who wins the Premier League title and Guardiola was able to rest many of his key stars ahead of it.

Rodri was taken off at the break while Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Nathan Ake, Kyle Walker and Phil Foden didn’t leave the bench.

It was a deserved night off for Foden, who has been sublime of late and Joleon Lescott revealed something he has noticed about him.

Joleon Lescott on Phil Foden

Speaking on TNT Sport, Lescott said: “Anyone could see his ability, and anyone would have seen it.

“But when you are around him and you see him, you see an obsession to be better, to be the best he can be.

“That’s something I don’t see very often in anyone, I haven’t seen it in many players.

“Phil Foden wants to be the best and he’s obsessed with being the best.”

Phil Foden is becoming the best

Foden might not quite be the best player in the game just yet but with the way he’s going, it won’t be long before he is.

The £225k-a-week man played a crucial role in City’s treble triumph but has stepped up his level even further this season.

He is playing the best football of his career and many already have him pegged as the Player of the Season.

With 28, he has already beaten his best-ever tally of goal contributions and there’s plenty of football left to add to it.

More importantly, Foden stepped up to the plate when City were without Haaland and De Bruyne and ensured his side kept pace in all competitions.

Foden is taking on more and more responsibility and is now one of City’s most important players.
