Josko Gvardiol had a rather successful debut season at Manchester City.

During the previous summer transfer period, City shelled out £77m to sign the defender, making him their most expensive purchase of the window.

Making 42 appearances across all competitions, the Croatian went on to win his first Premier League trophy with Pep Guardiola’s side as they became the first team to win four in a row.

Despite that, the 22-year-old has shared his frustration at one particular incident he was involved in last season that he has not been able to get over.

Josko Gvardiol says he’s still angry over FA Cup final mistake

In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Gvardiol had this to say about the mistake he made in the FA Cup final against Manchester United where he inadvertently headed the ball away from Stefan Ortega leading to the Red Devils scoring the first of their two goals on the day.

He said: “I still feel angry about what I did.

“I wanted to pass the ball back to Stefan. I didn’t see him, I thought he was on the line and I just wanted to head the ball back.

“Sometimes we need to talk more, to communicate more.”

Gvardiol’s FA Cup final mistake shouldn’t diminish a great debut season

After this mistake, United went on to score a second goal and while a second-half striker from Jeremy Doku got the Blues on the scoresheet, it ultimately wasn’t enough to regain the FA Cup they won the previous season in their Treble-winning campaign.

In terms of his efforts in the Premier League, the defender was named by Peter Schmeichel as the best signing of the summer.

With Gvardiol now admitting that he is still angry with this incident, despite being a Premier League champion, this shows the high bar he has set for himself and how much he wants to win, highlighting the elite mindset he has.

Looking ahead to the new season, having clearly learned from his mistake, this should put him in a good place to have an even better campaign this time around.
