Manchester City have had a decent start to their 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

With seven games played, City have won five and drawn twice, leaving them with 17 points on the board in second place.

Pep Guardiola’s side have scored more goals (17) than any other side in the division but have conceded the same amount as Liverpool and Arsenal combined (8).

One player from City’s squad who has been a prominent figure in the team so far this season is Josko Gvardiol.

Specifically, the Croatian has appeared in all seven league games for the Blues and started six of them.

In fact, Ally McCoist said Gvardiol was the standout player in City’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle.

With the latest international break now over, an interesting statistic has emerged concerning the defender which will undoubtedly present him in a good light to his manager.

Josko Gvardiol tops big Man City stats list

According to a recent statistical analysis report from BBC Sport, Gvardiol has covered more distance (67.7km) per 90 minutes than any other City player in the Premier League this season.

From a wider perspective, 16 players (one from each club) have a higher distance covered total than the City defender.

Mateo Kovacic backed Gvardiol to become a City ‘great’

The defender has already found himself being praised in recent weeks, as earlier this season, Mateo Kovacic said this about what Gvardiol can go on to do at City.

He said: “For sure Josko is a great player, great character, a guy that wants to improve and I think there is no better club than being at City so for sure Josko will be great, already is for this club and for our national team.”

In addition to having the highest combined total of tackles and interceptions (24) in the City squad, the 22-year-old has also made more progressive carries (17) than any other defender at the club across their seven league games.

This may make it unsurprising for City supporters to see that the defender has covered more distance per 90 minutes than any other player to feature for the Manchester club in the Premier League this season.
