Spanish journalist Alfredo Martinez has claimed that Barcelona plan not to re-ignite their pursuit to sign Man City midfielder Bernardo Silva in 2023.
In August, Xavi admitted (via Barça Universal) that he loves the Portuguese international as a player as well.
In fact, Forbes had relayed Gerard Romero’s update that City had agreed to sell the 28-year-old to the Catalan giants in the summer.
Even Pep Guardiola had stated via ESPN that the player “likes Barcelona a lot”, hinting that he would fancy a switch to the Spanish side.
Despite the £43.6 million (Guardian) man coming off a superb season for the Sky Blues, it seemed as if his heart has been set on an exit for some time now.
After the 2019/2020 campaign, the decorated attacker had hinted that a change of scenery is what he was looking forward to, after staying in isolation in Manchester during the pandemic.
With the four-time Premier League winner also close to joining the Blaugrana in the summer of 2021, several City fans feel the transfer is inevitable.
Barcelona pull out of Bernardo Silva race
However, Spanish journalist Alfredo Martinez has delivered a positive update for the Etihad faithful regarding Bernardo Silva and Barcelona.
“Barcelona definitely rules out the Bernardo Silva option. His moment has passed. They won’t come back for him in summer”, he said.
A huge relief for Man City if true
Any and everyone within the Man City camp is likely to be buzzing if Martinez’s revelation comes true.
Bernardo Silva is arguably the most well-rounded midfielder in the world, with his supreme qualities both on and off the ball making him a uniquely gifted player in the middle of the park.
The Portuguese superstar has been magnificent once again this campaign, and remains extremely integral to City’s success.
If Barcelona choose not to approach Bernardo Silva next summer, Man City have a cause for celebration, as the man is virtually irreplaceable.
