Journalist claims it is now ‘very unlikely’ that Man City will sign £60m Premier League star this summer

Manchester City have been rather quiet in this summer transfer window so far.

While they have added no new players to their squad apart from Savinho, the Manchester club have moved the likes of Sergio Gomez, Liam Delap, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Tommy Doyle out of the Etihad Stadium.

Despite City being linked with moves for numerous players across the Premier League and Europe, a journalist has now poured cold water on the possibility of seeing Pep Guardiola’s side land a deal for one particular player they’ve been mentioned with over the past few weeks.

Journalist claims Man City are ‘unlikely’ to sign Eberechi Eze this summer

In a recent post shared on his X account, journalist Michael Plant had this to say about the possibility of City signing reported target Eberechi Eze this summer.

He said: “Very unlikely #mcfc make a move for Eberechi Eze this summer (story of the window in many senses).

“With [Kevin] De Bruyne & [Phil] Foden in attacking midfield roles, plus James McAtee expected to stick around, there’s not really a need for #cpfc man.”

City may not need Eze

Earlier this month, journalist Ben Jacobs said that City and Tottenham Hotspur were in the frame to sign the Crystal Palace midfielder, who has a £60m release clause in his contract (via Daily Mail).

With 124 appearances under his belt for the Eagles, the 26-year-old has found the back of the net 26 times and delivered 17 assists.

As Plant mentioned in his tweet, with City having the likes of Foden, De Bruyne and possibly McAtee in the squad, among others, who can operate in different midfield and wide roles, we feel that the potential addition of Eze may not be completely necessary for the Blues.

However, if any current City midfielder or attacker were to depart the club before the summer window closes, perhaps a late swoop for the Palace star could end up being on the agenda.
