Journalist Graeme Bailey has claimed that Manchester City are one of the clubs interested in signing Malcom this summer.

While the Citizens still have some games left to play before the season ends and the transfer window opens, it has been suggested that the club have already got one potential target on their radar.

City eyeing Malcom transfer

Speaking on a recent edition of the Talking Transfers podcast Bailey said this about Malcom and the attention he has been drawing ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

He said: “He’s had a sensational season for Zenit [St. Petersburg], Zenit who romped to the Russian league title.

“He had 30 goal contributions in total and he’s got some very big clubs who have been very impressed with his progress PSG, but also Arsenal, Man City, Newcastle, we’re being told have also taken note.

“It’s a difficult situation, teams are going to have to buy him, he is co-owned by some Brazilian businessman as well.

“Keep an eye on this one, Malcom is very much a wanted man. I think he’ll be heading back to mainstream European football. Might not be easy to get him out but I think Zenit will sell and FIFA and UEFA will have to rule on it.”

As Bailey mentioned, the winger has had a very impressive season with Zenit, finding the net 26 times and supplying nine assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.

To further highlight how much of a dangerous attacking figure he can be, the 26-year-old has racked up more shots at goal (105) than any other player in the Russian league this season.

With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why the attacker has caught the attention of some of Europe’s big clubs such as City.

Moving forward, if Pep Guardiola feels the need to strengthen his squad, particularly in the wide positions, it could be worth making an approach to Zenit this summer and finding out what it could take to sign their Brazilian star.
