Manchester City have become familiar with securing transfer deals for young players in recent years.

For instance, City have landed deals for the likes of Claudio Echeverri and Divin Mubama among others in recent transfer windows.

Involved in these previous deals is the Manchester club’s sporting director, although it was recently reported that Txiki Begiristain will be leaving City in the summer.

It was then announced by the club on their official website that Hugo Viana will be replacing Begiristain at the Etihad Stadium in the summer, meaning that he’ll be the one involved in future transfer deals among other things.

Now though, some behind-the-scenes details have come to light regarding another young talent who has found himself on the Manchester club’s transfer radar that Viana could be getting involved with in the future.

Man City monitoring Andrij Maksimovic

In a recent post shared on his official X account, journalist Florian Plettenberg said this on the matter.

He said: “Excl | Borussia Dortmund is interested in signing Serbian supertalent Andrija Maksimovic next summer.

“Several top clubs (Juventus, Man City, Liverpool) are also monitoring the situation of the 17y/o offensive midfielder from Red Star Belgrade. Maksimovic’s contract at FKCZ runs until 2027 and he is expected to cost at least €15m.”

Who is Andrij Maksimovic?

Having worked his way through the youth ranks at Red Star, the 17-year-old has made seven senior appearances for the Serbian club.

Five of those senior appearances have come in this current season, one of which saw the teenager start and complete 70 minutes in Red Star’s 4-0 defeat to Inter Milan in the Champions League.

Despite predominantly being an attacking-midfielder, Maksimovic has featured in different attacking and defensive positions on the right-hand side of the pitch, highlighting his versatility.

As part of a scouting thread shared on X about the teenager, @SerbFootyScout said this about him.

It said: “Maksimović’s temperament is vital; he’s cool, calm, and collected, confident in his technical and cognitive skills. His temperament has been a key factor in his smooth adaptation to higher levels of play, enabling him to handle pressure effectively.”

Taking all of that on board, in addition to the fact that he could be available in the future for just £12.5m, Maksimovic could be a smart signing for Pep Guardiola’s side to make.

Moving forward, if the youngster carries on getting regular senior minutes throughout the season and manages to impress, Viana could make this his first transfer deal as City’s new sporting director.
