Borussia Dortmund reportedly have no chance of signing Manchester City winger Cole Palmer this summer.
The German club were linked with a move for the 21-year-old earlier in the summer transfer window, however, Chelsea have now expressed their interest in the player and have even seen a £35m bid rejected for him.
Now though, a fresh piece of information has arisen regarding the state of play concerning the Englishman and the interest in him.
Dortmund now have no chance of signing Palmer
In a recent Twitter post, journalist Patrick Berger had this to say on the matter.
He said: Chelsea now pushing on a transfer of Cole Palmer (21), as @FabrizioRomano reported first. Manchester City rejected an initial bid as the English top club wants a fee of around €40m, sources telling. Borussia Dortmund targeting Palmer for a long time but no chances anymore.”
If Dortmund feel like they can’t compete with Chelsea financially, there aren’t many clubs in European football that can nowadays, especially since they’ve made no bones about spending significant amounts of money on players in recent times such as Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Enzo Fernandez among others.
Described as a “fantastic” talent by football talent scout, Jacek Kulig, on Twitter, the winger has scored two goals in three appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side this season, but has been an unused substitute for their two previous Premier League matches against Newcastle United and Sheffield United.
This could be why Chelsea have made an effort to take him away from the Etihad Stadium, in addition to his clear talent.
Moving forward, while it seems likely that Dortmund won’t be approaching City over a move for Palmer, it’ll be interesting to see what happens with Chelsea’s interest in the player and what sort of deal could be worked out between the two Premier League sides before the summer transfer window draws to a close.
