Journalist says Man City could still sign Jude Bellingham this summer

Journalist Luke Edwards has suggested that Manchester City could still end up signing Jude Bellingham during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Real Madrid are closing in on securing a transfer deal for the midfielder, although they are still needing to agree on a fee with Borussia Dortmund.

Despite this, one journalist has claimed that the Citizens and their close rivals, Manchester United, could still be in with a chance of snatching Bellingham out of Real’s clutches this summer.

Edwards doesn’t rule out Man City for Bellingham transfer

Speaking on a recent episode of the Football Daily podcast, Edwards said this on the situation.

He said: “I don’t think he has agreed to go there yet. I think they’re certainly favourites, they’re willing to pay £89m and I think Dortmund believe they can probably get closer to £130m and that’s a £40m difference as far as Dortmund are concerned.

“Dortmund will want him to go somewhere who is willing to pay the asking price so there’s a stumbling block there.

“I wouldn’t rule out Manchester City, I also wouldn’t rule out Manchester United definitively at this stage. I think Real Madrid are in the driving seat. I think [Dortmund] will be interested in trying to keep other clubs interested and trying to attract other bids.”

The 19-year-old recently ended his latest season with Dortmund having scored 14 goals and provided seven assists across 42 appearances in all competitions, donning the captain’s armband on a handful of occasions.

Despite just missing out on winning the league title, Bellingham still picked up the Bundesliga Player of the Season award.

The teenager also impressed on the international stage during England’s World Cup campaign in Qatar, getting himself on the receiving end of some heavy praise from pundits such as Alan Shearer and Rio Ferdinand.

This all makes it easy to see why he has the likes of Real looking to secure his signature this summer.

Moving forward, we feel that if the Spanish side don’t end up sealing a deal for Bellingham in the coming weeks, City should do all they can behind the scenes to make sure they do.
