Journalist Florian Plettenberg has shared an update regarding Julian Alvarez and the reported interest in him from Bayern Munich.

Last month, it was reported that the German club were considering making a move for the Manchester City striker during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Now though, some fresh details have emerged regarding the situation.

In a recent Twitter post, Plettenberg had this to say on the matter.

He said: “News J. #Alvarez: He was on the shortlist under the old transfer team in the last weeks.

“Bayern was optimistic to get him in summer, if they would have really agreed on him internally. They appreciated his performances.

“In the last days there were no discussions about him anymore.”

Plettenberg then revealed that Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel is pushing to sign Dusan Vlahovic instead and also has an eye on Randal Kolo Muani.

Alvarez’s time at City so far

Having only signed the Argentine back in the 2022 January transfer window for a fee of £14m, City offered Alvarez a fresh contract back in March, which will keep him at the club until 2028.

With his debut Premier League season completed, the 23-year-old scored nine goals across 31 league appearances, helping his side secure their fifth title in six years.

The striker could still end his first season in England with the FA Cup and Champions League under his belt, with Pep Guardiola’s side set to feature in both finals this month.

Now that Bayern have apparently cooled their interest in signing the World Cup winner this summer, this will be a big relief for everyone at City, who presumably would have no intentions of allowing Alvarez to leave the club anytime soon.

Moving forward, if the centre-forward can continue his development at the Manchester club and become a better player, he has the time and space ahead of him to be a pivotal long-term figure at the Etihad Stadium.
