Julian Alvarez has now officially left Manchester City to start a new journey in Spain with Atletico Madrid.

Signed from River Plate for £14m back in 2022, the Argentine went on to complete two seasons at the Etihad Stadium before securing a £81m move to Atletico earlier this week (via BBC Sport).

During his time at the Manchester club, Alvarez scored 36 goals, supplied 18 assists and won multiple domestic and European trophies.

Now that his move to Atletico has been made official, the 24-year-old has shared some behind-the-scenes details on what some of the players at the Spanish club were doing to him prior to this significant transfer.

Julian Alvarez says Atletico Madrid players messaged him about leaving Man City

In a video shared on the ESPN FC YouTube channel following the announcement of his move to Atletico, Alvarez had this to say about what some of his new teammates did before the transfer went through.

He said: “Antoine [Griezmann] and Giuliano [Simeone] sent me messages almost every day, Rodri de Paul as well and Nahuel [Molina], they were really insistent.”

Atletico’s players are right to be excited about Alvarez’s arrival

Earlier this month, Pep Guardiola revealed that Alvarez had told him that he wanted to start a new challenge away from the Manchester club after helping the Blues win their fourth consecutive Premier League title.

Taking into account how many goals and assists Alvarez delivered during his two seasons at City, it comes as no surprise to us that the Atletico players the Argentine mentioned were messaging him to get him to join them at the Spanish club.

Moving forward, everyone at City will undoubtedly be hoping that the striker’s move to Atletico works out well for him and he can add even more silverware to his already impressive individual trophy cabinet.
