Jurgen Klopp has admitted that even if Rodri had been sent off in his side’s 4-1 defeat at the Etihad Stadium, Liverpool would not have beaten Manchester City.

After the Spanish international picked up an initial yellow card, he made yet another challenge right after to stop the visitors in transition, with many claiming that he should have got a second yellow card and been red carded.

What Klopp said about Liverpool losing to Manchester City after Rodri sending off question

But instead of expressing his grievances about Rodri staying on the pitch, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has said that even if Manchester City had 10 men, his side would have tasted defeat.

While one can understand why there has been a clamour around Rodri avoiding a second yellow, it is also worth noting the stage of the game when the challenge took place and also how other bookable offences were avoided.

Keeping that in mind, the referee got it spot on, as Pep Guardiola’s side went on to demolish the Reds at home after Mohamed Salah’s initial strike.

When quizzed about whether Rodri should have been sent off, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp replied after his side’s thrashing against Manchester City, via journalist James Robson.

“I’m not sure we would have won against 10 men today”, he conceded.

Shows just how dominant Manchester City were on the day

There were a number of standout performers on the day in sky blue such as Jack Grealish, as Erling Haaland pointed out after the game.

Despite suffering an early blow at the hands of Mohamed Salah, City showed their class with a domineering fightback, courtesy of goals from Julian Alvarez, Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Jack Grealish.

While one can only imagine how Manchester City would have performed against Liverpool if Rodri was sent off, what Jurgen Klopp said shows just how much the hosts bossed proceedings.

A spectacular display from a side that is kicking into gear at the perfect time.
