‘Just that good’: Pundit says he was stunned by what Man City did against Sheffield United

Paul Merson has praised Manchester City for the way they beat Sheffield United in their previous Premier League match.

The Citizens made it three Premier League wins out of three last weekend thanks to a 2-1 victory over Paul Heckingbottom’s side.

While it could be chalked off as a normal win for Pep Guardiola’s team, one pundit has highlighted the manner in which the treble winners grabbed this latest win.

Merson amazed by City quality in Sheffield United win

Written in his latest column for Sportskeeda previewing this weekend’s latest round of Premier League fixtures, Merson had this to say about how City beat the Blades.

He said: “Even the other day, they dominated Sheffield United despite only winning the game by a goal. The Blades went and scored an equaliser in the 85th minute and that could have been bad news for any team. But that’s the quality of this City side.

“They bounced back immediately with a goal of their own. They can just turn it on like a tap. City are just that good. Unlike the other top Premier League sides, City very rarely have a poor day.”

After missing a penalty in the first half, Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 63rd minute to put the away side 1-0 up.

The Blades then equalised in the 85th minute through Jayden Bogle not long after Kyle Walker gave possession away in a dangerous area.

Thankfully for City, and as Merson mentioned, it only took them three minutes to find a winner, with Rodri being the hero again as he was in Istanbul against Inter Milan in the Champions League final at the end of last season.

With that in mind and the fact that the Citizens racked up 79% possession and made 30 attempts at goal in total, it’s hard to argue with what Merson said about what he saw from them last weekend.

Moving forward, if City can keep dominating teams and making sure they win consistently, they’ll have a great chance of regaining the Premier League title once again this year.
