Manchester City secured a 2-1 victory against Watford in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

Goals from Jeremy Doku and Matheus Nunes helped City secure their place in the next round of the competition.

Playing this match against the Hornets just two days after their dramatic 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium, City had some of their younger fringe players in the starting XI.

In fact, Pep Guardiola gave 16-year-old defender Kaden Braithwaite his senior debut in this latest match in what could turn out to be a busy season for the Manchester club.

After the teenager played 76 minutes before being replaced by Josko Gvardiol, he then went on to share his thoughts and feelings about his first appearance in City’s senior side.

Kaden Braithwaite reacts to Man City debut

Speaking to City’s official website after the Watford game, Braithwaite had this to say when asked how it felt to make his senior debut for the Blues.

He said: “It’s a dream come true to be fair. I’ve just been preparing for this moment my whole life.

“To do it today was just unbelievable for both me and my family. They were in the crowd, I don’t even know where they were but they were there supporting.

“I think they’ll be proud more than anything. Obviously, my dad majority just taking me to training. And my mum has always been there cheering and supporting on the sidelines.

“They’ll just be buzzing. I just took it in my stride.”

Braithwaite had a promising debut in Man City vs Watford

During his time on the pitch against the Championship side, Braithwaite showed how effective he can be on and off the ball.

For example, with 77 touches of the ball in total, the defender completed 62 of the 65 passes he attempted, leaving him with a passing accuracy percentage of 95%, the joint-second-highest in the City team.

Then in terms of his defensive work, Braithwaite made two tackles, one interception and won three of the four ground duels he was involved in.

This makes it easy to see why Kit Symons said that Braithwaite looked very “accomplished” against Watford.

Taking all of that on board, it’s safe to say that Guardiola made the right choice in giving the youngster his first senior City appearance, which it will be great for the supporters to hear he was thrilled with.
