“Keep following him”… Fabrizio Romano claims Man City will still monitor £16m target despite new contract

Manchester City will keep following Eberechi Eze despite his decision to sign a new contract at Crystal Palace.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano.

So, what is the latest on Manchester City target Eberechi Eze? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, there was strong interest from Manchester City in the England international – who loves Bernardo Silva – during the summer transfer window.

According to The Athletic, Pep Guardiola only decided not to bid for Eze due to his preference for a smaller squad, along with the fact Kevin De Bruyne would be fit again for the second half of the campaign.

Now, the Crystal Palace No.10 has signed a new contract at Selhurst Park – according to The Athletic.

However, Romano believes that this development has not made Manchester City go away.

The reliable Italian journalist wrote: “Eberechi Eze, set to sign new Crystal Palace deal soon as agreement was reached almost ten days ago. It’s all in place now. Salary will be increased. Huge move for CPFC plans.

“Manchester City wanted Eze last August — told they keep following him for future.”

The 25-year-old, who Crystal Palace signed from QPR for £16m, has one goal and three assists in ten appearances across all competitions so far this season.

Manchester City might still have a way to sign Eze

Contract extensions are not what they used to be.

Nowadays, a new deal often includes a release clause, making the initial extension a little bit irrelevant.

For example, Manchester City were able to sign Jack Grealish for £100m due to a release clause, despite the fact he signed a five-year contract extension at Aston Villa less than 12 months before that move.

According to many sources – including the Guardian – there is a strong possibility that Eze has a release clause in his new contract, as Michael Olise negotiated one into his new deal only recently.

If that is the case, then Manchester City still have a way to get Eze out of Crystal Palace later down the line.
