Kevin De Bruyne has revealed whether he is the current Manchester City captain or Kyle Walker.
While Walker has donned the armband for the majority of this campaign, many assumed that this was due to the Belgian international’s absence due to injury.
After Ilkay Gundogan’s exit this summer, it seemed natural that the 32-year-old would be the heir to his throne but, he has decided to provide clarity about the situation (via The Times).
Kevin De Bruyne says Kyle Walker is the actual Manchester City captain
However, there was no official confirmation about the decision and instead, the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias, Rodri and Bernardo Silva were known to be a part of the club’s leadership group.
But there seems to have been a sense of mystery around which out of the two City legends has the honour of taking over from Ilkay Gundogan this season.
Kevin De Bruyne has put all the question marks to rest by confirming that Kyle Walker won an internal vote which took place at the end of August, crowning him as the brand-new Manchester City captain.

“I was number two. Walks [Kyle Walker is number one”, he said, as quoted by The Times.
Every Manchester player should emerge as a leader regardless of who dons the armband
Be it Kyle Walker, Kevin De Bruyne or any player who is wearing the armband at Manchester City, the group as a whole must emerge as leaders.
Whether that be through example or by pushing their teammates to get the best out of themselves, there are different ways to exert one’s authority and take responsibility.
Even when the likes of De Bruyne, Walker, Stones, Haaland or Rodri to name a few did not captain the side, their burning desire for victory and elite displays set the example for the rest.
If this remains the mentality this season, Manchester City will emerge successful regardless of the captain on the pitch.
