Kevin De Bruyne reportedly had a say in Manchester City’s transfer pursuit of Jeremy Doku.

The Citizens have been linked with a move for the Rennes winger recently and have even agreed a deal for the player worth £55m.

With the 21-year-old now looking likely to be City’s latest signing of the summer transfer window, some interesting behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding how the club ended up deciding to launch a move for the player.

According to a recent report from TEAMtalk, part of City’s research into Doku included having conversations about him with his international teammate, De Bruyne, who ended up convincing the club to push for a move for the Rennes star ahead of Lyon’s Bradley Barcola and Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise.

The report also adds that Pep Guardiola has been in contact with the player, which has also helped get this proposed deal all but officially confirmed.

During his time with Rennes, the winger scored 12 goals and delivered 10 assists in 92 appearances across all competitions.

Having only played in four international games with De Bruyne, who previously described Doku as a “diamond in the rough”, they have one joint goal participation between them.

The winger has also received praise from his former international manager, Roberto Martinez, who has labelled the youngster as an “exceptional” player.

Moving forward, if Doku ends up becoming a City player in the coming days, it’ll be interesting to see if De Bruyne’s recommendation ends up being a fulfilling one.
