One club who won their league last season are said to be interested in signing Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
Phillips spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham United, with City hoping the move would help him find form again.
He had barely played under Pep Guardiola in the first half of 2023/24, and the club wanted Phillips to go out and play, potentially in the hope of him increasing or holding his market value ahead of the summer.
But it was a disastrous spell for Phillips, who made a number of errors in games, got sent off against Nottingham Forest and finished the season injured. He would end up missing out on England’s Euro 2024, having previously been a favourite of Gareth Southgate.
Phillips is back at the CFA for pre-season, but it might not be that he’s there for long.
Galatasaray interested in Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips after torrid 2024

It has been reported by Turkish outlet Haberturk that Galatasaray are now interested in a potential move for Phillips this summer.
The focus of the article is actually on Gala’s pursuit of Zenit midfielder Wendel. the club are seeking to land the Brazilian, but currently haven’t reached an agreement with the Russian club.
But Phillips is then mentioned as also being on their agenda.
Phillips was signed by City from Leeds United for a total fee of £45 million two years ago.
If City are to sell the player this summer then it’s unlikely they will get anywhere near that initial transfer fee, given how his struggles.
So most of the chat this summer has been about teams looking to take Phillips on loan first. But the player is on high wages (around £150,000 per week), which could be problematic for a lot of clubs.
Gala are seeking to strengthen this summer after winning the league title in 2023/24. They will play Champions League football this coming season.
Phillips surely won’t stay
It would be a major shock if Phillips was still a Manchester City player at the end of the summer transfer window.
It is very clear at this point that Pep simply doesn’t rate the player, as much as he adores him as a person.
It just hasn’t worked out for Phillips at City and hopefully he can get a good move this summer. Ideally, he would leave permanently and enjoy a fresh start elsewhere.
But City need to see what kind of bids come in. While they will have to cut their losses, they likely won’t want to sell for too little.
A move to Gala for Phillips would be very interesting. At the very least, Phillips – who was recently linked with Fulham – would be out of the spotlight which has been very harsh on him in recent times, and it might be the ideal environment for him to rebuild.
The prospect of playing in the Champions League could well appeal.
