Manchester City have sold some big-name players during Pep Guardiola’s reign at the club.

For example, City have cashed in on figures such as Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus among many others over the past eight years.

Another top player who waved goodbye to the Etihad Stadium after a very successful period in Guardiola’s side is Leroy Sane.

Having spent four trophy-filled years with the Blues, Sane joined Bayern Munich in the 2020 summer transfer window in a deal worth a reported fee of £54.8m (via Sky Sports).

Now though, the German could potentially damage his relationship with City and their supporters following a recent transfer update concerning the winger.

In a recent post on his official X account, journalist Florian Plettenberg said that Manchester United are monitoring Sane’s current situation at Bayern Munich and could make a move for him in January or the next summer transfer window.

Plettenberg also added that with Sane’s contract at Bayern set to expire in the summer, the winger is continuing talks with the club about signing an extension.

What has Vincent Kompany said about ‘unbelievable’ Sane?

After spending four years as his teammate and captain at City, Vincent Kompany said this about Sane in his early days as Bayern’s manager.

He said: “We had an unbelievable time together at Manchester City. When I was at City I was a little bit more than a captain. I won’t be that different now.

“It is a talented team and he is a talented player. To make it really simple, my job is to try to get the most out of Sane and out of every player in the team. From that, I will make no distinction.”

During his time at City, the winger bagged 39 goals and delivered 43 assists in 135 appearances.

In fact, back in May, Cedric Soares said that Sane was always tough to play against when he was at City.

Since becoming a Bayern player, the two-time Premier League winner has found the back of the net 49 times and supplied 50 assists in 179 matches.

Even though United have not troubled City in terms of winning the Premier League title for numerous years, potentially seeing Sane join the Red Devils would undoubtedly damage his relationship with the Blues and the supporters.
