Lionel Messi once asked Sergio Aguero what Phil Foden is like at Manchester City as the England international’s reputation grew.

That is according to the Telegraph.

So, what was said about Lionel Messi and Phil Foden? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, everyone at the Etihad Stadium knows how talented the Manchester City No.47 is.

However, those outside of the United Kingdom – including Messi and Javier Mascherano – had only heard murmurs about Foden’s progress under Pep Guardiola, finding themselves keen to learn more.

The Telegraph believe the Argentinian duo then asked Aguero about the City Football Academy graduate.

Specifically, Messi and Mascherano are said to have asked what “that kid Foden” is like.

The Telegraph add that Aguero and David Silva took the Stockport-born maestro under their wing when he first broke into the senior setup under Guardiola back in 2017.

Now, nobody – not even Messi – needs to know much more about Foden.

The 23-year-old has scored 65 goals in 235 appearances for Manchester City, also providing 45 assists on his way to winning five Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, two FA Cups, the UEFA Super Cup and also four League Cups.

Phil Foden could be key in Manchester City vs Liverpool

All eyes will be on Foden at the Etihad Stadium this Saturday, as the Manchester City No.47 often finds a way to unlock Liverpool.

The England international has scored three goals in nine appearances against Liverpool throughout his career, while also providing two assists.

Foden has won four of these nine clashes with the Reds, and two of those three goals have actually come at Anfield – a truly difficult place for any opposition player to make an impact.

Therefore, Foden could be the key to Manchester City picking up all three points on Saturday – especially if Erling Haaland is unable to feature.
