Liverpool could be set to deal a very big blow to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola this summer.

Manchester City have been usurped by Arne Slot’s Liverpool side in the Premier League this season, and Pep Guardiola has a huge task on his hands if he is to turn things around next season.

Pep Guardiola has made some costly transfer errors at Manchester City over the past year.

He brought in a few players who are simply not good enough for Man City, including the likes of Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic, and that has allowed complacency to creep in at The Etihad.

Guardiola has to reverse that damage this summer.

The Man City manager will be looking to completely revamp his squad, with as many as eight players expected to leave the club.

However, the latest news seems to suggest that Liverpool could be set to make the gap between them and City even larger this summer.

Liverpool signing Jeremie Frimpong would hurt Pep Guardiola

Liverpool are being strongly linked with a move to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

The 24-year-old right wing-back is a target for Arne Slot ahead of the summer window according to Manchester Evening News.

The Netherlands international has been sensational for Leverkusen over the past few years.

He has bagged 29 goals and 40 assists in 182 games for Xabi Alonso’s side (Transfermarkt) – incredible numbers for a right wing-back.

That said, he does play as an attacker sometimes as well, but that only goes to prove that the £33.4 million required to sign him (Fabrizio Romano) is even more of a bargain.

Let’s not forget, he can even play as a left-back as well!

Once the 24-year-old is in full stride, he’s very hard indeed to stop.

Pep Guardiola must be really fearful of the prospect of Liverpool signing Frimpong this summer.

Manchester City letting Jeremie Frimpong go was a huge mistake

Pep allowed Frimpong to leave The Etihad to join Celtic for a minimal fee way back in the summer of 2019.

In all fairness to the Man City boss, the full-backs he had available to him at the time meant that it would have been incredible hard for the Dutchman to force his way into the team on a consistent basis.

However, looking back with hindsight, Pep will surely be wishing that he had kept hold of the pacy Leverkusen star.

How Man City could do with someone like the 24-year-old full-back now.

Liverpool signing Jeremie Frimpong in the summer would really hit Manchester City and Pep Guardiola where it hurts.
