Manchester City have been dealt various injury blows throughout the 2024/25 season so far.

For example, in addition to losing Oscar Bobb and Rodri to long-term injuries, names such as Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish and John Stones, among others, have missed games through fitness issues.

City’s next match sees them take on Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola’s side head into this match without a win in any of their six previous matches, whereas the Reds are currently eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table and recently beat Real Madrid 2-0 in the Champions League.

However, one of the key figures in Arne Slot’s side has taken to social media to share an injury update which will undoubtedly have a big impact on Sunday’s big showdown at Anfield.

Ibrahima Konate confirms injury status before Man City vs Liverpool

In a post shared on his official Instagram account, Ibrahima Konate said this in his caption following his injury scare at the end of Liverpool’s win over Real.

He said: “So frustrating to pick up this injury right at the end of a great game on Wednesday night. Now we start the recovery process but one thing I promise is I will come back and be the best I can be once again. Thank you for the amazing support at Anfield. Inshallah we will keep going and I will support the team every step of the way.”

Konate will be a big miss for Liverpool

Towards the end of Liverpool’s win over Carlo Ancelotti’s side on Wednesday night, Konate found himself entangled with Endrick, resulting in both players hitting the ground awkwardly.

In his post-Real press conference, Slot said Konate had some “pain” but didn’t know the extent of the injury he suffered.

Now that the Frenchman has shared this message on social media, it sounds like it’s a serious injury that will certainly see him miss the City game at the very least.

Having featured in all 12 of Liverpool’s Premier League matches this season, Konate’s absence against City will undoubtedly be a blow for the Reds.

In fact, the centre-back has racked up the second-highest total of clearances (44) and tackles won in the defensive third of the pitch (10) out of everyone at the Merseyside club this season.
