Phil Foden has revealed how impressed he’s been watching Mateo Kovacic so far in Manchester City pre-season.

Kovacic remains the only incoming at the Etihad Stadium so far this summer.

He joined the club last month in a £25 million deal from Chelsea, which could reach £30 million with add-ons.

City fans have been excited to see Kovacic in action in Pep Guardiola’s team.

At Chelsea he regularly showed his technical quality, and the impressive ability to escape tight situations.

So far, City have played two pre-season friendly matches against Yokohama F.Marinos and Bayern Munich and it has to be said – Kovacic is looking good.

Phil Foden has also enjoyed seeing the 29-year-old in action. And he reckons that he is already nicely settled into the squad.

Speaking after yesterday’s 2-1 win over Bayern, Foden said of his new teammate (mancity.com): “Mateo has come straight into the team, and he has fitted in really well and looks at home.

“He’s a person that can bring a lot of quality to the team.

“He is aggressive in the challenge and good at getting out of pressure in tight situations.

“I feel like him coming into the team can help us a lot and I’m really excited to play with him.”

Kovacic will be a super signing for Man City

It has been a very nice start for Kovacic at City.

Obviously, no one can read too much into these pre-season games.

But Kovacic – who is apparently really impressed by the team spirit at City – has undoubtedly looked impressive, as many fans expected him to being so technically gifted.

Some feel Kovacic will be more of a rotation option.

But the man has the potential to become a regular in that City side.

We saw last season how Manuel Akanji became a key player for Pep, after many anticipated he would be a rotation option.
