Gary Neville has heaped praise on Manchester City striker Erling Haaland for becoming the quickest player to reach 50 top-flight goals.
The striker broke this record by scoring in City’s recent 1-1 draw against Liverpool, beating Andy Cole’s record of hitting 50 goals in 65 games by doing it in 48 matches.
This quickly led to one pundit and former Premier League player, sharing his thoughts on the Norwegian and his impressive goalscoring ability.
Neville praises Haaland after record-breaking goal

Speaking in a recent episode of The Gary Neville Podcast following on from City’s draw against Liverpool, the pundit had this to say about Haaland and this latest record he has broken in English football.
He said: “He’s a giant, he’s world-class, he’s top, top, top. So I’ve got no doubts at all about this player, no one has. It’s phenomenal, he’s an absolute phenomenon.
“We’re lucky to have him in the league, I said this last season, we don’t usually get players like him, they normally go to Real Madrid, Barcelona. We very rarely sign players in this league when they’re going to be the best in the world and we know they’re going to be the best in the world but City have done it and he’s a difference-maker.
“He brought them the treble last season, they hadn’t got there before, they hadn’t got the Champions League before and then obviously this season now how he’s gone on to do what you’ve said which is the quickest player to get to 50 goals. Not just quickest but by some margin as well. Andy Cole’s record is fantastic but he’s smashed it out of sight.
“I enjoy watching him, he makes City less perfect, if you know what I mean, in the sense that the intricacy doesn’t happen around him, he doesn’t get involved in the game that much, but he’s a powerhouse, he’s a machine, he’s someone that I would want in my team every single day of the week.
“The only problem I’ve got with him is that he’s wearing a blue shirt. Everything about him is unbelievable, I love him to bits.”
With 72 appearances for City now under his belt, the 23-year-old has scored 70 goals and lifted four major trophies along the way.
Having also broken numerous records throughout his debut season at the Manchester club, Haaland has continued his impressive goalscoring efforts into this campaign by scoring 14 goals in 13 Premier League games.
With all of that taken into account, it’s easy to see why, even as a former Manchester United player, Neville has been so complimentary and so full of admiration for the City star.
Moving forward, if Haaland can continue scoring goals on a regular basis, he’ll undoubtedly give his side a great chance of winning more silverware and be in with a chance of getting more praise and individual awards.
