Luke Shaw says the Man United players are thinking about Man City winning the treble

Luke Shaw has claimed that the Manchester United players have the thought of Manchester City potentially winning the treble ahead of this afternoon’s FA Cup final.

Both sides have the chance of winning their second trophy of the season today, as the Red Devils head into the final as Carabao Cup winners, whereas Pep Guardiola’s side come in having won their fifth Premier League title in six years.

Following today’s match, next weekend will see City travel to Istanbul to take on Inter Milan in the Champions League final.

With the Citizens on the hunt to win both trophies, one United player has shed some light on their mindset heading into the game at Wembley Stadium.

Shaw highlights treble concern

Speaking in a recent video from the official FA Cup YouTube channel, Shaw said this

He said: “There has to be no more added incentive anyway than a final against Man City but, of course, we know in the back of our minds they are on for the treble and, of course, us as a team, we have to do everything we can to win that game.”

Bearing in mind how the Red Devils won the treble back in 1999, it’s safe to say that Erik ten Hag’s players would do anything they can to stop City potentially doing the same.

While this may give the United player extra motivation to win today’s game, City will undoubtedly be focused on winning the FA Cup so they can not only get their hands on another trophy, but also to set them up and put them in a good shape to take on Inter next weekend.

Looking back at the two league meetings between the Manchester clubs earlier this season, the champions blasted their rivals with a 6-3 scoreline at the Etihad Stadium back in October, which was then followed by a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford in January.

Surprisingly, the defeat in January saw City have just one shot on target throughout the game, which highlights how well United can defend and why the Citizens need to be at their best today if they want to take a step closer to winning the treble.
