TNT Sports commentator Ally McCoist said last night that he would be ‘staggered’ if Phil Foden did not become an England starter after his amazing form of late for Manchester City.
City beat FC Copenhagen 3-1 last night at Parken to stretch their winning run to 11 matches across all competitions.
Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden got the goals for the visitors, who did concede rather sloppily in the first-half.
But it was a terrific performance from City, with Copenhagen unable to really deal with the movement and the passing, with the likes of Rodri and John Stones – called ‘outstanding’ by Paul Dickov – dictating play in midfield.
It was another superb outing for Foden, and Ally McCoist dropped a glowing verdict on the player during last night’s match…
Ally McCoist would be ‘staggered’ if Phil Foden didn’t become a regular for England amid amazing Man City form

Foden provided an assist and score a goal himself last night for City to take his total to 15 and 10 for the season.
He is well on course to get achieve personal bests in both categories, and fans have been mesmerised watching him recently.
Foden has played centrally a lot of late, but last night he featured mostly on the right.
But it seemingly doesn’t matter where Foden plays right now – he is delivering. And in the eyes of McCoist, he simply has to be a staple pick for Gareth Southgate.
He said during the first-half of last night’s game: “I tell you what, the little fella has been nothing short of magnificent. Some of his goals as well, some of his finishing, top-class, absolutely top-class.
“I’m certainly not in a position to tell Gareth his job, but if Phil Foden doesn’t start for England… dear me, I’d be staggered.
“It’s blatantly obvious (Foden is better in the middle). Whether that’s on the left and he comes into the number 10, or on the right and he comes into the number 10. That’s one of his strengths.”
Foden is sending a message to Gareth Southgate right now
It was yet another fantastic performance from Foden for City and hopefully, the England manager tuned in last night.
At this point there is just no way Foden cannot be an England regular. He may not have quite done it at international yet, but Foden is showing how special he is and he needs to be in that Three Lions team.
Alan Shearer said this week that Foden could be giving Southgate a dilemma along with Jude Bellingham, but realistically both need to be on the field for England.
It would almost be negligible for South not to make him a regular after seeing what he’s doing for City – 25 goal contributions by mid-February is some going.
