Joao Cancelo is set to join Barcelona from Manchester City today after a bit of a hold up.

The ‘unique’ full-back had been on track to complete his move to the Camp Nou days ago.

But Barca’s financial issues have been preventing it from being tied up.

Cancelo had even been waiting at Lisbon airport ready to fly to Barcelona. But he was told to wait while the club got things in order.

The club’s president Joan Laporta has now taken out a bank guarantee to inject cash into the club.

And Cancelo has apparently agreed to cut his salary to help bring the move to fruition.

And now, there has been another update on this situation…

Man City and Barcelona to negotiate Joao Cancelo permanent transfer next summer

According to SPORT this morning, City and Barca now have an explicit agreement in place that will see them negotiate for Cancelo’s permanent transfer next summer.

It has already been reported that the clubs have removed the option to buy clause that was in place.

At the moment Cancelo stands to join Barca on a straight loan deal.

The reason for the removal of the buy option is so that so the money in question ‘does not count towards the current financial year’ for Barca.

Hopefully, Barca’s financial situation will be much improved by next summer.

Seemingly, City do feel as though it will be following this update from SPORT.

In an idea world, Cancelo will enjoy a productive spell out on loan this season, and will then be sold for a decent fee next summer.
