Manchester City were reportedly interested in acquiring the services of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery as part of a potential deal that would have seen Bernardo Silva join the French club.

During the recent summer transfer window, the City midfielder was linked with a move to PSG but the Manchester club had turned down an offer for him from the Ligue 1 outfit.

Now though, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding the French side’s interest in the Portuguese international and what City’s stance was during this period of the window.

According to journalist Jonathan Johnson in a recent edition of Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing report for Caught Offside, PSG were prepared to include the likes of Marco Verratti and Gianluigi Donnarumma in a deal for Silva in the summer, although City were more interested in acquiring someone like Warren Zaire-Emery, as well as a significant amount of money.

Having worked his way through PSG’s youth ranks, the 17-year-old made his senior debut for the club back in October.

Since then, the midfielder has made 35 senior appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring two goals and delivering one assist along the way.

Described as an “elite talent” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig on Twitter, it’s easy to see why the treble winners would have rather had a young and exciting player like Zaire-Emery included in a potential deal for Silva over the likes of Verratti or Donnarumma.

However, with the 29-year-old not only staying at the Etihad Stadium this summer but also signing a new contract at the club, this effectively put an end to any possibility of him leaving before the previous transfer window closed.
