Man City boss Pep Guardiola shares what Savinho told him about his injury against Chelsea

While Savinho enjoyed a dream Premier League debut for Manchester City in their 2-0 win against Chelsea, he seemed visibly distraught after picking up a knock during the contest.

The Manchester City winger was clutching his knee as he looked like he was in severe pain.

Pep Guardiola lauded Savinho’s display but he was taken off at half-time as he returned to the bench to witness proceedings with an ice pack around his knee.

Considering Oscar Bobb has recently suffered a long-term injury, there would have been understandable concerns amongst the Manchester City fanbase that another of their wingers was set to be ruled out of action due to the same reason.

But seeing how Savinho was sitting on the substitutes’ bench, it would have been fair to assume that the possibility is that Pep Guardiola took him off for precautionary purposes.

Guardiola shares Savinho injury update after Man City beat Chelsea

The 20-year-old would have been hoping that after two successive impressive showings against Manchester United and Chelsea, he had not suffered a major setback through injury.

However, football can be cruel when it comes to handing players such injuries after they make big moves.

Romeo Lavia’s debut campaign at Stamford Bridge was blighted by injuries as he played a mere 38 minutes of football last season.

The City supporters would also have been gutted to miss out on watching the Brazilian exhibit his flair on the pitch this season.

But Manchester City fans across the world can let out a sigh of relief as Pep Guardiola has revealed that Savinho told him that his knock against Chelsea was not a serious injury whatsoever.

The £378,846-a-week man said via journalist Ty Marshall: “Some disturbance in the knee. He said he knows perfectly why, had it in the past. Apparently, it’s not a big, big problem. Will be ready for hopefully next Saturday.”

If Savinho is fully fit, he seems to have earned his starting spot against Ipswich Town

Savinho performed to a standard where it would not emerge as a surprise if Pep Guardiola was considering starting him against Ipswich Town on Saturday.

With the youngster’s technical elegance, silky dribbling and intelligent decision-making standout out against Chelsea, it seems like he is ready to take the Premier League by storm.

Considering how confident Savinho seemed despite playing at Stamford Bridge, his display against Kieran McKenna’s side could be boosted by the fact that it will be in front of the Etihad Stadium.

However, for that to be the case, the 20-year-old will have to recover in time for his potential home debut.
