Manchester City are reportedly edging closer to landing a transfer deal for Josko Gvardiol.

The Citizens have been heavily linked with a move for the RB Leipzig defender in recent weeks having agreed personal terms with him over a month ago.

Last week, it was claimed that a deal had been agreed between the two sides, which were quickly debunked after Leipzig director, Max Eberl, revealed that a deal was not close.

Now though, some fresh behind-the-scenes details have emerged that could spell the end of this particular transfer saga.

According to a recent report from Calciomercato negotiations between City and Leipzig over a move for Gvardiol have resumed and that a deal could be struck this week.

The report also adds that City will likely pay the €100m asking price for the centre-back and give Leipzig a percentage of any potential future sale.

Bearing in mind how the Citizens have not walked away from this potential deal despite the hefty price tag on the Croatian, this shows how eager they are to add him to their ranks.

Also, with the 21-year-old, who has been previously described as an “extraordinary” player by Ivica Olic, has made it clear to Leipzig that he wants to join Pep Guardiola’s side, this adds to the likelihood of this deal being completed one way or another.

During his time at Leipzig, the centre-back has made 87 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with five goals, one of which came against City in the Champions League last season, and three assists along the way.

Moving forward, if the Manchester club are able to finally strike a deal for Gvardiol in the coming days, as this latest report suggests, this will surely delight a lot of supporters and give the club the chance to focus on other potential transfer targets before the summer window closes.
