Manchester City have seen a few players leave the club during the current summer transfer window.

Specifically, City have sold Sergio Gomez, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Liam Delap on permanent deals to separate clubs over the past few weeks.

The previous summer transfer window saw the Blues cash in on bigger-name players such as Riyad Mahrez, Cole Palmer and Aymeric Laporte for significant transfer fees.

Now though, with the preseason period underway, some behind-the-scenes details have come to light regarding another player on the books at the Manchester club who could also be leaving the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Borussia Dortmund strike agreement with Yan Couto

According to a recent report from Sky Germany, Borussia Dortmund have a basic agreement in principle to sign Yan Couto this summer.

The report also adds that the German club are willing to pay between €20m-€25m (£16m-£20) to sign the defender, who would like to make the move, but City want more than Dortmund are ready to offer.

City could get a decent fee for Couto

Despite joining the Citizens back in the summer of 2020, the 22-year-old has not made an appearance for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Instead, the full-back has completed loan spells with clubs such as Braga and Girona.

In his previous campaign on loan with the Spanish club, the Brazilian made 39 appearances in total across La Liga and the Copa del Rey, chipping in with two goals and 10 assists in the process.

Across his 34 La Liga games last season, the right-back ended the campaign with the third-highest total of goal-creating actions (14) in the Girona squad and the second-highest number of successful tackles (34) at the Spanish club.

This shows how useful the defender, who has previously said he’d be open to joining Real Madrid, can be at both ends of the pitch on and off the ball.

Moving forward, it’s understandable, in our view, why City would want to sell Couto for a higher fee than the one Dortmund are apparently willing to shell out for him.
