Manchester City were restricted to a 0-0 draw against Inter Milan in their opening game of the 2024/2025 Champions League campaign.

Pep Guardiola’s men had plenty of chances to put the game to bed.

However, Manchester City were anything but clinical in front of goal on Wednesday night.

In the first half, Bernardo Silva completely miskicked the ball after Kevin De Bruyne set him up with a gilt-edged chance to put the hosts into the lead at the Etihad Stadium.

It seemed like Phil Foden could emerge as the super-sub after Gundogan set him up with a golden opportunity.

However, Foden’s effort from close range was caught by Yann Sommer as his right-footed effort was hit straight down the middle.

Man City vs Inter Milan sees Etihad Stadium streak broken

Josko Gvardiol put in an inch-perfect cross for Gundogan to head into the back of the net.

However, the German’s effort was straight down the middle.

In the dying embers of the contest, the former Barcelona midfielder’s diving header also flew over the crossbar after a brilliant cross from Jeremy Doku.

All in all, the hosts would be ruing their missed chances against Simone Inzaghi’s side.

On another night, City would have taken home the all-important three points against the Italian giants.

As per journalist Jack Gaughan, Manchester City drew their first game in five years at the Etihad Stadium in a Champions League group game after sharing the spoils with Inter Milan.

Man City will be frustrated after Inter Milan result

Ultimately, the Sky Blues have another seven games to play in the league phase of Europe’s elite competition.

As a result, the scoreless draw against a team of Inter Milan’s calibre was not the worst result in the world to say the least.

However, considering Manchester City were not at their absolute best, they would be frustrated knowing they could have won the game.

Inter Milan had their chances too but City had opportunities that should have confirmed their victory.

Pep Guardiola and Co. will be reflecting on what went wrong during the week in the aftermath of the closely-fought affair.
