With Enzo Maresca being Manchester City’s former assistant manager, he needs no reminding of the qualities that several of their current players possess.
Especially a player like Rodri, who played an instrumental role in City’s treble triumph when Maresca was still at the club.
The Manchester City conductor winning the Ballon d’Or earlier this year emphasised why he is well and truly a special midfielder.
So much so that Kyle Walker admitted Manchester City miss Rodri every time he is not playing.
Declan Rice spoke to Manchester City’s stalwarts on England duty, who also told him that in the Spaniard’s absence, they are not the same team.
Yet, Enzo Maresca commented on Rodri by claiming that Moises Caicedo “sits on the same table” as both him and Rice.

Man City fans react to Enzo Maresca comparing Moises Caicedo to Rodri
Caicedo is having a tremendous season for Chelsea, staking a claim for being the most in-form midfielder in the Premier League.
The Ecuadorian international has played a crucial role in the Blues sitting in second place in the league table.
However, Manchester City supporters took to X to express why they wholeheartedly disagree with Enzo Maresca’s assesment.
A Manchester City fan simply asked: “Sit with who?”
A second City supporter claimed: “Rodri is not in the same class as these players. Even the hype around Rice by the Arsenal fans has dried up.”
A third City fan stated: “He [Caicedo] sits at the head of table two, table one is Rodri on his own.”
A fourth Manchester City fan wrote: “Neither of the two of them sit at the same table as Rodri.”
A fifth Manchester City supporter explained: “I’m sorry, I don’t remember Rice or Caicedo helping his team win a treble, four titles in a row, a Euros in which they’re Player of the Tournament, breaking [Paolo] Maldini’s record for the longest run of unbeaten games ever and a Ballon d’Or.”
A sixth City fan stated: “Maresca cannot be serious right now.”
What Marc Cucurella said about Rodri proves Maeresca wrong
Marc Cucurella’s praise for Rodri involved the Chelsea left-back stressing that not many understand how incredible a player he is and perhaps his claim applies to Enzo Maresca.
“My Ballon d’Or votes would have been: Rodri, [Dani] Carvajal and Vinicius”.
“People don’t know what he has until he’s not there and you start training with Rodri and he controls everything. Now City don’t have him and they keep losing games.”
Considering Caicedo has well and truly come good in a Chelsea shirt since the backend of last season, for Maresca to claim he is on the same level as Rodri is a massive exaggeration.
Cucurella’s claim sums up how many, such as Maresca in this instance perhaps downplaying how outstanding a player Rodri is.
Caicedo still has a long way to go to even be comparable to the four-time Premier League winner.
