Manchester City supporters would have relished witnessing Liverpool lose 2-1 to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final for a number of reasons.
Firstly, the Reds’ latest defeat would have been yet another reminder of how difficult it is to win on multiple fronts; something Manchester City have done time and again under Pep Guardiola.
Secondly, this Liverpool side were tipped to potentially win the treble earlier this campaign.
But Arne Slot and Co could not even match Pep Guardiola and his legendary City side when it comes to winning the domestic treble this season.
Speaking of Slot, Manchester City fans aimed digs at him for failing to both win the Premier League and the Carabao Cup in his first season — a feat famously achieved by Manuel Pellegrini after his debut campaign at the Etihad Stadium.

One Manchester City fan mocked Arne Slot by simply writing on X: “Manuel Pellegrini won more in his first season than Arne Slot btw [by the way].”
Another Manchester City fan claimed Slot is not a better manager than Pellegrini: “So Manuel Pellegrinni is officially better than Slot for now.”
A third supporter added: “A few weeks ago, Liverpool fans were talking about winning it all. Could they slip up again and end up with nothing? Slot can’t even do what Pellegrini did in his first season.”
A fourth Manchester City fan stated that Manuel Pellegrini was not handed the praise Arne Slot has despite achieving more in his debut season in England: “Pellegrini had a better first season and didn’t get half the praise Slot has got.”
However, a fifth Manchester City supporter feels Pellegrini was not hailed as much as Slot because the Chilean was simply a better manager than the Dutchman: “Maybe because Pellegrini is far better manager than Slot.”
Finally, sixth fan also added: “People forget this and pretend like Arne Slot is having the best debut season for a manager.”
Manuel Pellegrini’s time at Man City is underrated
Perhaps it is due to Pep Guardiola’s virtually unimaginable success that Manuel Pellegrini does not get the credit he deserves.
Perhaps the now-Real Betis boss may also not be lauded for winning both the Premier League and Carabao Cup in his debut season due to how City eventually finished fourth in his final season.
But all in all, Manuel Pellegrini did an impressive job at Manchester City, winning one league title, two Carabao Cup trophies and amassing 86 points in the league in his first season as well.
