Phil Foden has come under plenty of criticism for his underwhelming performances for Manchester City this season.

In City’s 2-0 defeat against Liverpool as well, Foden struggled to stamp his influence on proceedings as well.

Foden reacted to Manchester City’s loss by admitting that his boyhood club have had a “difficult few weeks.”

Tony Cascarino slammed Foden’s form as “unrecognisable” from last season where he was arguably the key figure behind Manchester City’s Premier League title triumph.

Earlier this season, Stuart Pearce questioned Pep Guardiola for not starting the 24-year-old regularly.

Since then, the decorated midfielder has become a regular feature in Manchester City’s sides.

However, it cannot be denied that so far, the Englishman is yet to truly lit proceedings up this campaign.

The Stockport-born technician’s form has been largely uninspiring but there is no denying that he is a top player.

But after Phil Foden took to Instagram to post images of him lifting the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award and winning several trophies, Manchester City supporters online were convinced he is ready to put all the doubts around him to bed.

Another City fan wrote: “He’s done with the disrespect, I’m so here for this.”

A Manchester City supporter chimed in: “Fair play, Phil [Foden]! Remind them who you are! Now, lock it in and walk your talk. It’s time!”

A Sky Blues fan wrote: “It’s over for the [Premier] League.”

Joleon Lescott revealed Foden’s “obsessed” Wayne Rooney-like mentality

Foden was compared to Wayne Rooney by Joleon Lescott in terms of his incredible winning mentality; a mindset that could perhaps have prompted him to send a message to his detractors.

“We know Wayne Rooney and I always speak so highly of him and Phil Foden is similar to him in that he is obsessed with football, completely.”

“Rooney was the first player I met that wanted to win, had to win more than me – Phil has taken that to a whole new echelon.”

Lescott added: “The desire to constantly have the ball at his feet, around hotels, the training ground etcetera. I worked with him at England U21s and we had to ban him from doing extra sessions after training because you couldn’t get him off the pitch. He always wants to work on his technique, put himself into game scenarios and develop.”

“He probably loves the game as much as I love my kids! He is just obsessed.”

Pep Guardiola would perhaps appreciate Foden being fired up as he could channel his seeming frustration on the pitch and help Manchester City play their best football.
