Man City fans say one of their players is just not good enough anymore after 2-2 draw vs Brighton

Manchester City suffered yet another disappointment as they drew 2-2 against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

Erling Haaland fired City into an early lead from the penalty spot but Pervis Estupinan scored a brilliant free-kick to bring the Seagulls back into the contest.

While Omar Marmoush scored a screamer from distance in the first half, Abdukodir Khusanov’s unfortunate own goal in the first half meant Manchester City had to settle for a draw against Brighton.

Pep Guardiola and Ruben Dias had a confrontation after the contest as tensions must have been high within the Sky Blues dressing room after yet another gut-wrenching result.

Manchester City fans were also far from happy after their result against Brighton, especially criticising Dias with many claiming that he might not be good enough for them anymore.

Man City fans slam Ruben Dias after draw vs Brighton

One Manchester City fan claimed that Dias does not possess the profile to thrive in the modern game after their draw against Brighton: “Dias though. I was cooked last season but this guy fails the modern day CB [centre-back] test. If his concentration is compromised, he’s absolutely finished in these streets.”

Another Manchester City fan claimed it’s time for Dias to leave the club after the contest against Brighton, adding: “Thought he was just in a slump but this guy gets spun almost every game these days and can’t recover because he’s so slow.”

A third City supporter stated that Dias has had an underwhelming season as well: :The worrying thing for me is that if you look at our line-up yesterday, I genuinely don’t think anyone improves the Brighton team apart from Haaland and maybe Marmoush (maybe Dias too but he’s had a poor season). That shows how far we have fallen. We are now at similar levels to Brighton, Bournemouth etc. Which yesterday’s result proves.”

A fourth fan replied to the Portuguese defender’s post-match post on X, writing: “You need to work hard to come back to your level, this season you are not solid at all.”

A fifth Manchester City fan claimed that Dias is struggling aerially, looks tired and cannot handle the fight for the full length of games nowadays after the game against Brighton: “Ruben Dias needs Khusanov more than any other defender to partner with. Bozo genes in aerial duels, tired legs, can’t sustain duelling for 90 minutes. Needs proper rotation.”

Finally, a sixth City fan suggested Ousmane Diomande to replace Dias: “we need a new CB in the summer preferably, Diomande. Diomande would be a starter, Juma Bah needs another loan and [Vitor] Reis is seen as one for the future, not one for now unfortunately.”

Ruben Dias stats during Manchester City vs Brighton

Dias remains a top player and he will be frustrated by facing such heavy stick.

Here are the four-time Premier League winner’s statistics against Brighton.

RUBEN DIAS STATS VS BRIGHTON
DUELS WON3/5
ERROR LED TO SHOT1
POSSESSION LOST12
TACKLES2
BLOCKED SHOTS0
CLEARANCES1

Dias won three out of five of his duels, made two tackles and one clearance but he also made one error that led to a shot and lost the ball 12 times.

The decorated defender was far from his best and on another day, Brighton would have scored even more goals.

But considering Dias has suffered several injuries this season, it is important to be patient with him as the former Benfica centre-back has plenty of credit in the bank at the Etihad Stadium.
