Perhaps one of the most surprising stories of the ongoing summer transfer window involves Manchester United’s reported interest in signing Stefan Ortega.
Ortega’s feelings about joining Manchester United are that as things stand, he is “open to discussing” a move to Old Trafford.
The last time a player played for both Manchester clubs is Carlos Tevez, whose move to Manchester City irked Gary Neville among several figures associated with United.
As Stefan Ortega has now been linked with a move to Manchester United, some Manchester City fans have expressed their distaste. Others are on board with the potential transfer while a certain section of supporters believe the Sky Blues should charge their local rivals a premium fee.

Man City fans react to Stefan Ortega to Manchester United links
One Manchester City fan claimed that Ortega’s famous save to keep Son Heung-min at bay that helped the Sky Blues clinch the Premier League title in 2024 will be wiped out of the supporters’ collective memories if he signs for the club’s arch nemesis, Manchester United: “If he makes this move, he automatically wipes out the Son save.”
Another City supporter also urged the club to rebuff the Red Devils’ offer, writing: “Please can we tell them to, in unequivocal terms to buzz off?”
A third Manchester City fan claimed that if Manchester United are ready to cough up a £60 million fee, they can sign Ortega by all means: “£60m and he’s yours.”
Another Manchester City fan claimed that United can make a move for the 32-year-old provided they pay £80 million, which would especially be a steep fee because Ortega’s contract expires in 2026: “Special price for you my friend, only £80m.”
However, other supporters were not too bothered about the prospect of the two-time Premier League winner playing for Ruben Amorim’s side, with one writing: “Good for him tbh [to be honest]. In contention to start there, doesn’t have to uproot his life either. Plenty of time and opportunity to play and make his mark ahead of WC [2026 World Cup] squad selection.”
Lastly, a sixth fan gave his blessing to Ortega, who Manchester City have asked to leave to now become a Manchester United player but only at a price that suits Pep Guardiola’s men, stating: “Honestly don’t mind letting Stefan Ortega go to Manchester United for a good fee (for us).”
All in all, the fanbase do not have unanimous points of view when it comes to the former Arminia Bielefeld shotstopper potentially joining United.

If Ortega moves to Manchester United, he would risk facing the wrath of Manchester City fans by making such a controversial transfer.
Paul Pogba admitted he could’ve joined Manchester City but decided not to and maintained his bond with United supporters.
