James McAtee looks set to become a Nottingham Forest player this summer.

After breaking into Manchester City’s first-team last season, the 22-year-old was a mere bit-part player, starting just three games in the Premier League.

However, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Nottingham Forest are “closing in” on a deal to sign James McAtee in excess of £20 million.

The agreement between both clubs is believed to be in the “final stages” and a deal looks set to be completed but Manchester City fans are upset about the reported fee.

Man City fans upset James McAtee could join Nottingham Forest for just over £20m

Considering Manchester City were demanding £40 million for McAtee, one fan was puzzled that they are now willing to sell him for nearly half the fee, simply writing: “£20m? After weeks of reports that we’re after £40m?”

Another City supporter was unhappy about the fee as well, as he wrote: “£20m is taking the mickey.”

Considering Manchester City rejected Nottingham Forest’s bid for McAtee worth £25 million, another fan was stunned that they are now happy to go ahead with the deal: “The day just keeps getting worse, rejected £25m last week to accept £20m…”

With Manchester City in discussions to sell Savinho to Tottenham for over £50 million, a disgruntled supporter claimed that they are low-balling themselves yet again with the Englishman’s potential sale: “City have outdone themselves in less than 24 hours. McAtee for £20m is even worse than Savinho. Can’t be happening, surely.”

A fifth fan questioned sporting director Hugo Viana for sanctioning the deal, simply stating: “We’re selling McAtee for £20m? Hugo Viana, what are you doing?”

Finally, a sixth Manchester City fan questioned the nature of the Sky Blues’ rebuild after discovering McAtee could join Nottingham Forest, explaining: “What kind of grand rebuild is this, bro? All we’ve done is let our best ever player go and we are getting taken advantage of in every deal. Mcatee is not worth £20m and Savinho is not worth £50m. They’re world class talents.”

All in all, the City fanbase are incensed about the news.

Man City’s strange U-turn over their James McAtee sale stance

James Trafford described McAtee as “incredible” and at Forest, he would keen to prove to Manchester City that they should have given him more minutes.

Considering Manchester City valued McAtee similarly to Cole Palmer, the fans have every right to question the rationale of their impending sale to Nottingham Forest.

It seems like City are keen to reduce the size of their squad, with Jack Grealish set to join Everton on loan as well.

Sky Blues fans will be hoping that McAtee does well at Forest but not to the extent of Palmer when he signed for Chelsea.
